Judge Shepherd was an Assistant District Attorney in Wagoner County, when he ran to judgeship and was elected an Associate District Judge in 1994 and took office in 1995. Judge Shepherd has run for reelection without opposition since. After Wagoner County District Judge Bruce Sewell retired effective March 1, 2009, Governor Brad Henry appointed Judge Shepherd to the vacant District Judge position.
