Judgeship Tenure, Dockets, & Courts

Judge Perugino was appointed as a Special Judge of at the Tulsa County Courthouse in 1990, initially working in the criminal division on a preliminary hearing and arraignments docket. On September 13, 1994, Presiding District Judge David Winslow transferred Judge Perugino to the domestic relations division, perhaps primarily handling protective orders. However, on October 7, 1996, Judge Perugino was transferred by then Presiding District Judge Jefferson Sellers back to a preliminary hearing criminal docket. On June 22, 1998, Judge Perugino was moved from his criminal docket to the probate docket by Presiding District Judge David Winslow. Beginning on November 20, 2000, pursuant to the direction of Presiding District Judge David Peterson, Judge Perugino moved from the probate division to the juvenile court. On January 8, 2007, Judge Perugino was assigned to the Family Law Docket D, handling divorces, paternity cases, and legal separations. This assignment was made by then Presiding District Judge Greg Frizzel. Judge Perugino continued at this post until his judgeship ended suddenly on Friday, July 31 2009, at 5:00 p.m., with no notice, except rumors circulating for the twenty-four (24) hours prior to his departure. The exodus was particularly unusual given his long service as a Tulsa County judge and the fact that he was considered to be a front runner for appointment to one of the District Judge posts vacated by one of two recently retiring judge's in Tulsa County. Officially, Judge Perugino gave notice of resignation to Presiding District Judge Thornbrough on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. The Honorable Judge Dawn Moody was tapped to succeed Judge Perugino.

In the summer of 2002, Judge Perugino threw his hat into the race for District Judge (District 12, Office 10). He would run against Doris L. Fransein, Steven Erik Hjelm, and Randy Lewin. Results published on August 28, 2002, has Judge Doris L. Fransein winning the election with 12,942 votes, compared with Perugino's 5,939 votes. Judge Perugino continued to serve as a Tulsa County Special Judge.
